The Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom, Transport Minister Dipuo Peters and Public Service and Administration Minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi have all been removed from their positions.

Zuma has said in a statement that the 20 changes to the National Executive were made in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness - adding that some younger MPs and women are being brought in.

Political analyst Karima Brown says the cabinet restructuring shouldn't come as a surprise.

"What we can see is just how powerful the Gupta family is. This effectively amounts to what many have called a Gupta coup. The other thing that needs to be remembered is that it is the former deputy finance minister, Mcebisi Jonas, who blew the whistle on the Guptas. He told the Public Protector that he was called by Ajay Gupta to their house Saxonworld," she said.

Former Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba has replaced Gordhan. Brown says all eyes will be on our new Minister of Finance now.

"We are going to be watching very closely the attitude of the Finance Ministry to the Gupta family and their businesses. More importantly, given the fact that today is the day for Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini to tell the Constitutional Court why she shouldn't be carrying the cost for the mess involving the SASSA grant payments," she said.

South Africans have reacted to the changes in Cabinet - some people say it's now time for ordinary South Africans to take a stand against State Capture while others have told Newswatch the Executive needed a shake-up saying we must give our new leaders time to turn the ship around.
