A dog found with a massive tumour was
abandoned on a beach by its owner.
A California woman has been charged with neglecting her sick dog.
The animal, which was suffering from a tumour that weighed almost 20 kilograms. was dumped on a Newport beach recently.
Animal control services found the animal, whose name is Henry, and were shocked to discover the huge tumour.
“Most vets that we’ve asked, and have been involved in his story, have never seen [a tumor] that big,” Newport Beach animal control officials told People magazine.
But thanks to the donations of animal lovers, Henry was able to undergo surgery to remove the tumour.
Sherri Haughton, the woman believed to be the eight-year-old dog’s owner, has been charged with neglecting her pet.
She allegedly called animal services to report a stray dog on the beach.
Officials say Sherri could have sought help for Henry as Newport Beach animal owners can turn their dogs over to veterinary services if the cost of their healthcare is prohibitive.
According to People, it would have cost Sherri $81 to do so, and the county would have paid for the surgery.
Henry is recovering well, and has been placed in the care of a foster family.
