Travel blogger reveals the real story behind her Instagram pictures

Think being a travel blogger is easy? Think
again!
Brooke Saward’s life as a travel blogger is envied by many. She gets to travel to beautiful locations around the world, and has visited over 50 countries.
You only have to take one look at her beautifully curated Instagram feed to wish you could pack up your bags and get on a plane to explore the world.
But the 25-year-old, whose adventures are documented on her blog “World of Wanderlust”, reveals that travelling is not as perfect as her pictures suggest.

She has had a few rough encounters, and during a trip to South Africa thought she had contracted Ebola.
“I hadn't taken my malaria tablets and totally convinced myself I had malaria or Ebola. I literally stayed in my hotel room for seven days ordering room service. Eventually, I got on my flight to Arizona and landed drenched in sweat. By the time I got to the hospital, and racked up a $10,000 hospital bill (luckily, I had travel insurance!), I found out it was just a kidney infection,” she told Daily Mail Australia.

Brooke says travelling alone as a female can also get scary.
“You have to be careful when you're travelling by yourself as a young girl - I'd never go out alone late at night, for instance. The most vulnerable I've ever felt travelling was when I was in La Paz and I had an attempted mugging,” she said.
But Brooke, who started travelling by herself at the age of 20, says she is glad she gets to travel the world, and has learned how to rely on herself.
“Before I went travelling, I was a bit of a princess, and I freaked out when things didn't go to plan. But you have to learn to deal with things. For instance, one time I was thrown out of my accommodation in Bolivia as they'd overbooked for a big group… I ended up staying somewhere pretty dirty. Before I went travelling, I wouldn't have done it, but going travelling teaches you to be grateful for having a roof over your head.”
