An Australian mother is making headlines for allowing her son to dress as Elsa, a character from Disney’s hit movie ‘Frozen’, and who just happens to be female.
Clare Crew says she is using gender neutral parenting to raise her three children, two girls and one boy.
The pre-school teacher allows her seven-year-old son to wear flower headbands, and did not think twice about letting him dress up as Elsa.

Clare admits that he is “kind of growing out of dabbling in dressing up right now”.
Her daughters, aged nine and five, prefer playing with train sets and Clare says she won’t buy them Barbie dolls.
“I'm surprised my girls have turned out as girlish as they have. Especially because I tried to avoid pink a lot, particularly in the early days. I think in the long run… I just hope they have slightly different attitudes towards gender and what boys and girls can do,” she told Daily Mail Australia.
Clare’s home may be a pink and Barbie-free zone, but she does not plan to keep things like make-up away from her kids.

“I know that sometime in the future we will most likely have to sit down and have a chat about make-up and ear piercings with the girls, and I won't forbid them from having those things if they want them. But I think for the most part gender neutrality is about being neutral rather than imposing a certain set of boundaries.”
Clare also praises her hands-on husband, who cooks and cleans, for helping her kids see that marriage is a partnership.
