Say hello to Sale Season
Updated | By Staff Writer
Paris Hilton once said that Sales are just full of items that nobody wants. I say, “Get a job, Paris”. Here’s a quick list of what’s happening at a mall near you.
Being a Recessionista is like the new black. Even Warren Buffet, the wealthiest man on the planet, didn’t make a profit in 2013 - so shrug off the SALE stigma, everyone is feeling the pinch, and get shopping - smartly.
On the top of my list is the Topshop sale. Like most other retailers they are offering a 50% discount, but this is your chance to buy that racy little piece you’ve always admired but couldn’t afford. Topshop pieces aren’t made to live and die in, they’re made to make the boys go ‘wow’. This is your chance to buy that dress you’ll wear once, maybe twice, but it will be guilt free. I got a gorgeous ‘wow’ dress at last year's sale and this year has even more little treasures on offer. The sale runs across the entire store so it includes Topman and accessories too!
The three big ballers; Edgars, Truworths and Foschini are also playing nice with affordable prices. Alas the Edgars sale has already ended but never fear you’re sure to find something gorgeous at one of the latter. Truworths are all about ‘The Real Sale’ and they aren’t joking. It’s massive and it’s madness in store so be sure to make it your first stop to avoid ‘Ladies Sale Rage’. Be prepared to dig a little and keep in mind that feeling of pure victory when you snag a pair of pricey leather boots with a seriously slashed price.
Foschini have gone the hard “cash off” route. There’s no doubt how much I love a Foschini sale but unless the teller is actually handing me R100 hard cash the deal seems less exciting. Maybe it’s just me because there is still certainly money to be saved. They’ve got some great denim button ups on offer that are hot for this summer and for a hot price too! They are great to wear unbuttoned with a bikini in summer and buttoned up in winter.
Queenspark have some really fabulous pieces for a fraction of their usual price and as always Stuttafords is leading the retail pack with some ridiculous discounts on their big brands like JCrew, Banana Republik, Witchery and Oaktree. Stuttafords sure do know how to do sales and if you’re in the market for an irresistible new LBD, this will be your stop.
As you know, it’s not just shoes and handbags that make us women tick. There are some incredible deco sales going on too. Bite the bullet and get those scatter cushions you’ve been eyeing @Home, at their 50% sale. Plan ahead and grab yourself marked down Christmas deco at Woolworths (I have) and try not to get sucked into all the shiny new product at Mr Price Home. There’s some great items on their ‘Priced To Go’ rack.
If the thought of fighting through crowds of wild eyed women at this year's January sales makes you cringe, then indulge in some online sale fun on Zando. You’ve just gotta love these wedges that were R459 and are now R275.
As the dutiful heiress would say, “That’s hot”.
