Natural relief for sunburn

Want to lead a healthier and more fulfilled life? Here’s KZN wellness and fitness expert, Lisa Raleigh, with her top 5 tips for the week…
If the sun has got the better of you, soothe your burn with aloe vera. Cut an aloe vera stem close to the base and remove the outer layer and skin. Cut or mash the remaining gel and apply it to your burnt skin.
Making the most of the weekend doesn’t have to mean a busy schedule. Taking time out is as important as planned events, and is often what you need after a busy week. Choose a natural environment to relax in, like the beach or a park, so you still get the benefits of sunshine, fresh air and a view, without having to lift a finger.
Give driving a skip this weekend. Chances are you’ve spent much of the week commuting in peak-hour traffic. Rather walk or cycle somewhere scenic with friends and lay off the petrol for a few days. Doing this a few days each month will benefit your pocket and the environment.
If you’re looking for a pick-me-up, try doing something for someone else. Volunteering at a local animal shelter, donating extras to charity or doing a fun-run for charity will all give you that feel good factor.
Regardless of temperature or cloud cover, don’t skip the SPF. Not only is sunscreen your chief ally in the fight against skin cancer, but 90-percent of the skin’s ageing is caused by environmental factors. The sun is the biggest culprit.
