Miss Buttons' winter wish list

Just like that the humidity has subsided and it’s already dark before the Ellen show. Winter, she is coming fast and furiously so I’ve made a winter checklist of what I’ll need, like any good stylist should.
Take some tips from my list before the big chill sets in and you’ll be snug as a bug in a rug!
Boots
This winter there are two major boot trends. The more popular of the two is the riding boot. Stylish celebs like Kate Moss and Michelle Williams were big fans of the riding boot during their winter. Make sure you find a pair in tan or black and never with a heel. I’ve spotted a really nice tan pair at Mr. Price for under R200! The other boot trend is the cropped boot. The shape doesn’t suit everybody. I’m obsessed with ankle boots and have my eye on a leopard print suede pair at Woolworths.
Chunky Knit Scarves
The chunky knit scarf is the perfect winter accessory. You can throw one over just about anything and it adds an immediate winter twinkle. The best part is, you can knit yourself one! Have a look here for some tips (http://www.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/lionbrand/displayCustomerProjects.fcgi?projectKey=82388&displayType=lit). Or if you are DIY challenged, head down to your nearest Woolworths to sift through their wide selection.
A Good Pair of Denims
The skinny jean is still the number one denim silhouette. The update for Winter 2013 is the ripped effect. I love the look but it is tricky to find. I’m still on the hunt for a pair and as soon as I find them I’ll let you know!
If the ripped denim look is a little too trendy for you then you can never go wrong with plain black or typical indigo denim. As long as the shape is sleek, you’re good to go. So many women think they’re too fat to wear skinny jeans and the truth is absolutely anyone can. Wear with heels to create the illusion of longer legs and if you’re worried about your bootie I always recommend a longer length off the shoulder knit. Edgars have a huge selection of denim brands and will be the best place to begin your search. Designer label denim does tend to be over priced so don’t get sucked in, no matter what the sales assistant tells you!
Cardigan Selection
Last winter the leather jacket was the must have item. This year it seems the must have item is a good cardigan or jersey. If you think you can’t wear a jersey to work, think again, you can! Dress it up with a heeled boot and a chunky neckpiece. I love metallic knits that give off a subtle shine. Foschini have some goodies. You’ll need three or four at least to rotate through the season so go for neutral colours and stay away from bold colours or prints.
PJs
I’m not a morning person on the best of days. Warm cozy PJs are my lifeblood through winter. The problem is I’ve been caught in my Winnie The Poo jamie set far too many times that I care to remember. Why, why, why do retailers always sell us the worst looking winter pajamas? Finally Cotton On (Pavilion) has seen the light and have the best selection of winter pajama sets and gowns (see photos above). Seriously you could get away with wearing your Cotton On pajamas to the shops, which is totally my vibe when it’s cold outside.
Moisturisers
Because winter is so dry you skin takes a knock so I always invest in body butters to keep my skin healthy and happy. There really is nothing better than getting out of a warm bath and lathering yourself in body butter. Nobody does body butter better than The Body Shop (http://www.thebodyshop.co.za/).
Stockings and tights
These little babies are the best winter fillers. I love wearing shorts and dresses with stockings. It’s the perfect way to bring your summer outfit into winter. You can never have too many pairs. A plain black opaque is always handy and I like to mix it up with lace stockings too! Woolworths, Mr. Price and Foschini have the nicest selection. The Falke selection in Foschini is my favourite.
