What's on in Durban this weekend
Updated | By Staff Writer
THURSDAY 7 AUGUST
Transections @ KZNSA Gallery
Anton Smit is an established South African sculptor, included in the permanent collections of the Pretoria Art Museum, Rembrandt Foundation, and numerous international private collections. His body of work comprises human figures, heads masks, speed figures and abstracts, using mostly steel, metal, sand casting, fibreglass and also bronze. It’s visual poetry that is bound to inspire and ignite Durban artists.
The Grand opening is tonight Thursday 7th August but the exhibition runs through till the 24th August. Get down to the KZNSA gallery in Glenwood for your fix of creative goodness. For more details check out the KZNSA website here
FRIDAY 8 AUGUST
Jeremy Loops @ LIVE
This overly talented lad from Kommetjie in Cape Town is taking the the South African music industry by storm. He recently won ‘Best Male Artist’ at the MK awards and I cannot stop playing his single Down South.
To watch the man play live is a serious treat, he plays the harmonica, guitar and other instruments while making the ladies swoon in the crowd with his sultry voice. Manuvah to Land will be his supporting act. Tickets are R70 pre-sale and R80 at the door. You gotta be there. Buy your tickets here or stand a chance to WIN double tickets to the show by emailing me at [email protected] with the subject line 'Jeremy Loops'. Include your name and your ID number.
TILT… and the beat goes on @ Origin
Tilt was one of those places Durbanites will never forget. I literally used to plan my TILT outfit on a Monday for a funky flavoured Friday at TILT. It was then that I first starting planning my wedding day playlist with DJ Funky G, and I didn’t even have a serious boyfriend yet. Lucky the TILT crew still throw reunion events and you can catch all the old locals MC Prawn, Funky G and Garuni in the mix at Orgin this Friday night. Wear something hot and get ready to jam. Wendy Oldfield and Lionel Bastos @ Bluestockings, Kloof
Power siren Wendy Oldfield splashes onto the Bluestockings stage on Friday from 7.30pm with her accomplished muso mate Lionel Bastos. Wendy should need little introduction as one of the country's foremost female artists. The duo will be showcasing the past 30 years of her illustrious career. Bookings via 083 659 3628.
SUNDAY 10 AUGUST
Morning Trade Market
The launch of the Morning Trade Market last weekend was a huge success and if you didn’t get to make it down there definitely pop past this Sunday. Starts at 9am. The initiative is all part of an inner city regeneration project so you’ll be blown away by all the events taking place as part of this enormous and inspiring venture.
