Toy Story hat trick for PMB school
Updated | By Staff Writer
Deccan Road Primary School in Pietermaritzburg has won the Toy Story Trophy for the third year in a row!
When East Coast Radio and Game teams descended on Deccan Road Primary in Raisethorpe, Pietermaritzburg this morning they were greeted with big, warm smiles and happy faces.
A suitable trade of-sorts, since the children of Deccan Road Primary helped collect the most toys for East Coast Radio’s Toy Story with Game, and helped bring happiness to thousands of ill and underprivileged children in KZN.
This is the third year in a row that the ‘Maritzburg school has earned the Toy Story Trophy, which they will proudly display for the next year. Pupils there donated 3,027 toys to the 2013 campaign – that’s double what they donated last year!
Presenter Deon Govender conveyed our heartfelt thanks to the pupils, adding that it was an honour to be in the presence of young people who have gone out of their way to help other children.
The 50 Deccan Primary pupils who collected the most toys each received a Game stationery pack and an East Coast Radio party pack.
East Coast Radio’s Toy Story with Game campaign wrapped up last month, having raised more than R1.3-million for food parcels and 43 000 toys in total.
The money was used to purchase more than 4 000 food parcels for orphanages, crèches and child-headed households in rural areas.
The toys were distributed to children in paediatric wards in 56 government hospitals across KZN, spreading joy and hope.
