R40k lost in bogus car sale transaction
Updated | By Diane Macpherson
They had been searching for a car via the online sites, and a buyer called them who claimed to have a 4x4 from an auction for R40k. He asked Vasinthi's husband to meet him at Nandi Drive, brought him back home to collect the money, then took him into central Durban saying he could go into ABSA and collect the log book. Her husband was hesitant by this stage, but the man, a short Indian man with star tattoos on his right hand, insisted. As Vasinthi's husband got out the vehicle, he drove off with the money in his white Nissan Navara V6. The couple is naturally devastated.
Westville hijackings
An alert for Westville residents, a resident was hijacked by four men in a gold Mercedes at 9am on Wednesday outside her driveway in Duncan Drive. According to Blue Security, this latest incident follows two hijackings at the weekend when a gang of four hijackers targeted a resident in Matapan Drive just before 11pm on Saturday night and just six minutes later hijackers struck another victim in Callender Road.
Bilker suspect arrested
There's an urgent request for any accommodation owners in KZN who have been caught by an Indian man who has booked in, then left often without paying, or after stealing TV's and other valuables, to come forward with any information. A suspect is in custody and investigators are trying to link all cases to the docket. Apparently there are already 52 cases. Contact [email protected] with any information.
New con or just an isolated case?
Chris is worried there's a new con around Durban. On Friday night on Chris Hani Road he witnessed a minibus-taxi driver break hard, so the car behind nearly went into the back of it. While no collision occurred, the driver, along with a passenger, jumped from the taxi and demanded money for nearly being hit. The young driver felt very intimidated and things only calmed down when Chris intervened, saying the police were on the way. He is concerned this setup is a new scam. Has this happened to you? If so please let us know via [email protected].
