Important alert for car salespeople
Updated | By Diane Macpherson
We start Crimewatch today with an important alert for car salespeople.
Isipingo and Amanzimtoti police are looking for three men who may assist them in three cases of hijacking that occurred in these south Durban areas this week. On Tuesday at about 12:15, a car dealer was lured by a suspect who pretended to be a buyer. The suspect had asked to test drive the vehicle and it was sent to him. Along the way, the salesman was confronted by two armed suspects and they drove with him towards the Folweni area. The suspects spotted a police van and abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
On the same day at about 15:30, a salesman from another car dealer drove a vehicle to an alleged buyer in Isipingo who had requested to test drive the vehicle and on the way he was stopped by two armed men. They drove with him towards Adams Mission where they dropped him off and fled with the vehicle. A day earlier, on Monday this week, a 44-year-old salesman was driving with an alleged buyer when they were accosted by two suspects at gunpoint and instructed to drive towards the freeway. The salesman was dropped off on the freeway and the others fled with the vehicle including the 'buyer'. Car hijacking cases are being investigated by Isipingo and Amanzimtoti police.
Car dealers are advised to take extra precautions when dealing with their customers in terms of test driving, they must be escorted by a security company. Anyone with information regarding the above mentioned cases is urged to contact Isipingo Police Station on 031 913 3409, Amanzimtoti police on 031 913 1308 or our Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
