Car theft gang in Durban targeting VW's
Updated | By Diane Macpherson
If you live in Durban's Morningside/ Musgrave/ Overport areas this alert
is for you. A gang of six men has been frequenting the area and stealing
or breaking into cars, particularly VW's - especially Polo's.
In the early hours of Friday morning two of these men tried to distract the neighbourhood guard in Earl Haig Road while the other four tried to break into a vehicle. In this instance the guard managed to foil the theft however the owner of a grey Polo Vivo wasn't so lucky - his car was taken from Morningside at around 3am that same morning. There was also an attempted break in to steal a VW Golf in Banfield Crescent, just around the corner from Earl Haig Road, on Thursday night. Apparently two silver Polo's have also been stolen from the area. The gang may have moved into other neighbourhoods by now, please ensure your vehicle is properly secured at night, especially, it seems, if it's a VW.
Selling online? Take note of this...
Jane emailed a warning which serves to remind anyone selling online not to part with their goods before receiving payment, ever. Jane's daughter advertised hers and her husband's wedding rings on Gumtree, for sale.
A so-called potential buyer emailed her for pictures which she sent to him. Due to him seeming so honest, she shipped the rings to him as a sign of good faith. She's never heard from him since he received the rings.
The agent who handled the bogus transaction went by the name of Military Star Bank ([email protected]).
Please note: It's our last MONDAY broadcast of the feature. From next week Crimewatch will go out on Thursdays only. Please like our Facebook page for daily alerts and continue to email safety tips to [email protected].
