Bringing smiles to Marcel's life
Cancer survivor Barbra Purdy is helping a long-time friend to 'buy a breast'. Her heart of giving pours out in this week's Big Favour.

I had an email from Barbara Purdy, a wonderful caring lady who runs her own company called B's Catering, Cleaning & Caring.
Her company caters for birthday parties, special occasions, weddings, engagements, and events, and also specialises in cleaning curtains and windows. Barbara is also involved in various fundraising projects. She believes that if she can't give back to her community, then how does she expect to prosper in her business.
About three years ago, Barbara, who was going through cancer treatment herself, met Marcel who had just had a partial mastectomy and was also having chemo and radiation treatment.
An instant bond was formed and Barbara decided that she wanted to (as she puts it)
‘buy Marcel a boob'.
Barbara decided to arrange a high tea to raise funds to buy Marcel a prosthetic
breast and some mastectomy bras, and although the high tea was a huge success,
the Prosthetic breast and mastectomy bras for Marcel were more expensive than
Barbara had anticipated. There was still a R6,500 shortfall.
It was time to call in some wonderful sponsors.
In doing so they aim to restore femininity, confidence, and comfort lost through having had a mastectomy.

Being a registered orthotic and prosthetic practice, this enables them to claim the bras and breast prostheses required from the patient’s medical aid.
