Would you move from your first class seat to accommodate a family?
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Is there a fine line between putting yourself first and being selfish?
Recently, we have seen many videos on TikTok where passengers share their feelings about being asked to switch seats on a plane.
The main consensuses has been that it shouldn't be taken for granted that all passengers will be accommodating and switch.
And it's not always because they are trying to be mean, or inconsiderate, sometimes it is just because they are comfortable and prefer not to move.
We can say that this is what happened to a woman who shared her experience on TikTok. The video got lots of attention and also sparked up a debate.
The debate was around travel etiquette and compassion. Initially, Marisa Friedman (the TikToker who posted the video) received a positive response, with many people agreeing with her for not giving up her seat.

It was not clear as to whether the family who asked to switch seats had a seat in the economy class or first class. She made a follow up video with a full story time.
In the video she explained why she is not a villain for saying no to accommodate the family. Because she, in fact, is also a mother and plans ahead when traveling with her family.
Friedman also gave several suggestions as to how to handle this situation in the future when flying and booking directly with the airline.

Many people also said that it's okay to ask someone, and it's also okay for that person to refuse. There shouldn't be an unwritten rule that you are obligated to give up your seat.
