Work trip with a day's notice, would you go or not?
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Uh, do we have a choice?
We recently came across a post on Reddit that asked people if it was okay to say no to their boss after being asked to go on a work trip with less than a day's notice.
So, naturally, we decided to ask our own community what they would do if faced with the same situation.
And, honestly, we were surprised to see your answers. In fact, it threw forward to certain stereotypes as well.
Due to the fact that the job market has become an unpredictable space for many people, many said they would go on the trip.
Sharlene Khan said: "Work is work it puts food on the table so yes."
Marion Cooke: "I'm on the work trip I was asked to go on 20 hours before we were due to leave. I don't mind as I don't have children or any other responsibilities to worry about"
Marion's comment really brought up another line of thinking for us. Do employers take for granted that people without kids or families are more flexible with their on and off the clock working hours?
Michelle Maistry said: "I'd go. At least he gave a day's notice to pack for the trip. However, the traveling, accommodation and meal allowance expenses must be sorted by the company. It's in the employment equity act"
While Justine Drysdale Lion-Cachet said: "If its to Fiji, sure! Seriously, if it's in your contract, then yes, you go and go with a smile. There are many millions standing behind you, begging for jobs, who would do it."

Dorrin Smith said: "Yes you go! That's how you get recognised for and looked at for promotion. Going above and beyond. Besides work is work"
It was interesting to note that mostly females commented, not to mention the fact that the majority said they would go.
Their input certainly reminded us that in a world where people are struggling to find work, we have an army of grateful people who are willing to change their plans to accommodate their employers.
