This woman decided to celebrate life in a coffin
Updated | By East Coast Radio
It's not uncommon for someone to think about death, even to prepare for those left behind once that day comes. But this woman took things to a new level...
Mayra Alonzo, a 59-year-old woman from Santiago, situated in the Dominican Republic, decided that she wanted to celebrate life. The way she chose to initiate this celebration was both unique and quite bizarre.
She went out and hired a coffin and bought some food and drinks and invited her close friends and family. Yes, you read correctly, she hired a coffin. No, not as a prop, the coffin was for her fake funeral.
Besides this being her way of celebrating life, she also wanted to see how her friends and family would react to her passing. She spent 60,000 Dominican pesos, which roughly equates to less than R 15,000.
Mayra lay in the coffin for many hours, whilst her friends and family, fake cried, paid tribute to her, and enjoyed the food and drinks provided.
She later revealed to her local news that she wouldn't want anyone dying any time soon as the coffin wasn't the most comfortable of places.
Mayra described her fake funeral to be a "dream come true" and shared that the many deaths that have happened due to the pandemic, was what encouraged her to appreciate her life.
