WATCH: From the Milk Crate Challenge to the 'Crate Challenge' in South Africa, did we jinx it?
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Just as we whispered, "we hope this challenge doesn't reach South Africa"... it does. The Crate Challenge has arrived.
Social media influencer, King Oumar, has tried to recreate the #milkcratechallenge by calling it the #cratechallenge. He gathers a group of youngsters to try out the challenge by offering them R500 if they manage to get over and across all the crates.
What starts off with all of them being super pumped up and confident, turns into a fear stricken affair, as many of them realise it's not an easy task climbing up the crates, which happen to be Coca-Cola crates.
The crates have been stacked really high, and the participants are youngsters that promote their social media channels. The one good thing we saw was a gathering of youth outdoors, which is quite rare, however, in the midst of a pandemic, we don't see any of them masked up, which isn't something we support.
After 12 minutes, we see one of the participants make it over successfully. It is quite interesting to note though that the crates that were used were higher and less stable (if we can say that) than milk crates. So we could possibly say that this 'crate challenge' is slightly more difficult.
But as some would say, don't talk until you have tried it out. And there is no way that's happening, so we will leave it there...
