WATCH: Skin problems - who can relate?
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Willingly opting for flaky skin to attain better skin... is that an option for you?
The Winter cold has been giving everyone's skin a good run this season.
Add in the countless times we apply sanitiser or go out in the cold without moisturising, safe to say our skin suffers a lot...
But not as much as those who suffer with dermatological illnesses and have to go through treatments that can sometimes be more harmful in the long run.
Like this woman, Remi, who suffers with eczema and has been treating it with topical cream for over 20 years.
After using the cream for so long, she decided to stop using it and turned to 'No Moisture Treatment'.
The reason she stopped the steroid cream was because it ultimately stopped working for her.
Basically she was prescribed a lower dose cream when she was younger, and eventually the cream gets used to your skin and no longer works. This causes doctors to prescribe a higher dose as the years go by, and so forth on and so forth.
Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW) has caused Remi to suffer with raw, itchy, peeling skin.
No moisture treatment basically involves minimal intake of water and showering, and no moisturising.
One of the things we loved the most was hearing about how she has learnt to love and accept herself.
She kept an online diary of her journey with no moisture treatment and documented it on TikTok.
