WATCH: Female surfer breaks her own record for biggest wave!

Maya Gabeira has set another incredible record.
Surfers might be the most fearless human beings out there.

They never fail to try and push themselves further, and in this case, even higher!
That's why the Editor-in-Chief of the Guinness World Records, Craig Glenday said he always looks forward to hearing updates from the World Surf League.

Maya set the previous record in Nazaré, Portugal at 20.7 metres, but has once again smashed it! Her latest record has been validated and is now at 22.4 metres.

Not only is it the biggest wave surfed by a woman, but it is also the largest wave surfed by anyone during the 2019/2020 season.
This makes her the first woman to ever claim this title.

Maya says that she is extremely happy that a woman claimed the title this year because she wants to inspire other women and show them that anything is possible.
What makes this feat even more impressive is that Gabeira had a major surfing accident in 2013 that knocked her unconscious in the water, where she was luckily saved by a fellow surfer.

The incident left her with a fibula that was snappes, a herniated disc and an anxiety disorder, but after three surgeries and four years recovery she came back better and braver.
