Black Coffee uses his influence to give back to his home town, Durban...
We know him for his legendary music and he has truly earned a reputable international name for himself, rightfully so he has put South Africa and more especially Durban on the map. Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo known to us as Black Coffee is working to give back to his hometown.
He recently announced his partnership with Durban Tourism where he will be featuring in a vignette of videos that will show off various locations around Durban, highlighting the city as an ultimate destination for tourists.
LISTEN to an interview he had about his favourite place in KZN below:
Phillip Sithole, the city's deputy manager for economic development, shared that Black Coffee participated with the Durban Tourism free of charge and wanted to give back to his city. (IOL)
We have paid him nothing to do this work. It's part of his contribution to his city and to his province, to the people of South Africa. More especially to people who are coming from the townships.- Phillip Sithole
Black Coffee shared that this project was very close to him as he loves Durban and wants the world to know Durban.
I’m very passionate about Durban. I’m very passionate about Umlazi. I believe everything I am today truly comes from growing up here and all the lessons I learned not just from home but from the streets.- Black Coffee
Durban Tourism hopes that these videos will encourage international artists to come perform in Durban, so a good win for the music lovers and the local music industry as well.
The project was aimed at also sharing authentic stories from artists who have come from humble beginnings and share a special bond with the city, especially the rural and township areas.
