An African original series, 'Jiva!', is set to launch on Netflix on June 24th - and we have the exclusive trailer!
There are few moments where we experience goosebumps when it comes to watching a trailer, but we've got to say that this one left us feeling proud, excited, and eager to watch this upcoming African original series.
We are left with the feeling of creating a dance show that is not just original to Mzansi, but also shows off the immense talent and deep rooted culture of dancing and what it does for us as a nation.
The show follows Ntombi (Noxolo Dlamini), an ambitious, but frustrated young dancer from Umlazi, Durban who wants to ditch her dead-end job, fetch her nice life, and get out of her rut and into the spotlight. On her journey to get there, she forms a dance group called the Trollies, made up of four very different but very talented women played by Candice Modiselle (Vuyiswa), Sne Mbatha (Zinhle), Stella Dlangalala (Lady E), and Zazi Kunene (Nolwazi).
There's no need to give you a prelude to what this means to us as Durbanites and as South Africans. It is a moment of pride and honour when something that is produced with such great quality and finesse, notwithstanding the intriguing story line and the amazing choreography.
Choreographed by Bontle Modiselle and Tom London, the show features a wide range of dance styles from Mzansi, all coming together to create a colourful ode to South African dance culture. An electrifying celebration of South African fashion, dance, and urban life, 'Jiva!' shows the world the energy and spectacle of our vibrant youth culture.
The series is a nonstop feast for the eyes featuring dazzling creations from MaXhosa, Hamethop, Imprint, Siko Republik, and Africa Your Time is Now. Get ready to yell ‘Yebo’ and ‘Haai maan!” at the killa moves you’ll see on your screens as 'Jiva!' launches this June 24th!
