WATCH: 97-year-old oupa turns bandit and drives off in the middle of the night
Updated | By East Coast Radio
A local 97-year-old grandfather is captured on CCTV cameras going out in the early hours of the morning on a quadbike.
There are those moments in life where we just want to escape it all and take a drive. This grandfather from Vryheid went all in when he decided to sneak out during the early hours of the morning and catch a ride on a quadbike.
When we came across this video, we were not just surprised at his spunk, but also left completely entertained as his grandson, Gerhard Theron, is seen running after him in his underpants.
In the post, Gerhard shares the story by calling it: "The 97 Bandit Strikes - 97 Year Old Stealing a Quad Bike"
My 97 year old Oupa (Grandad) stealing the quad bike on 18-16-2021 at around 01:45!! I forgot to lock the gate and he escaped!!!No spectacles, no shoes and no kierie! Luckily I got him before he reached Grensplaas in Namibia where he was heading to!!- Gerhard Theron
Whether it was for fun or just a way of living life to his fullest, we think that he is one cool grandad indeed. We managed to get in touch with Gerhard to ask him about what actually went down that morning.
He speaks so proudly of his grandad and shares some information with us, one of the things being that his grandfather has Alzheimer's and every day is often a new day for him.
LISTEN to Gerhard share what happened that night below:

When it comes to watching such unique and priceless moments, we have got to say that we love the sentiment here. Sharing videos that bring smiles to the faces of South Africans and everyone online, can really be the missing factor to what we all need to handle this pandemic. So thank you to Gerhard and the Theron family for sharing this with us.
