Tips on how to avoid a scam on Marketplace
Updated | By East Coast Radio
The thing about scammers is they don't sleep... they are always on.
Regardless of how much time passes, it is almost inevitable that scammers are around and are always ready to strike.
Opportunities have heightened since online platforms have opened up. As much as things like social media, online selling sites, and Marketplace create good opportunities for people, they are also crime-ridden.
We wanted to share some tips with you on how you can avoid being taken for a ride on Facebook Marketplace.

People migrate to Facebook Marketplace for the good deals that are often posted on the site.
But a great deal shouldn't always be taken for granted, because like that age-old saying goes, some things are too good to be true...
Here are some tips on how to avoid a scam on Facebook Marketplace:
- Avoid using cash and don't pay for something until you have had a chance to see it and inspect it. Especially mechanical things.
- Make sure to only conduct a handover of the item/s you are selling once you have received payment.
- Meet in the daytime in a busy and public space and don't agree to change the location at the last minute.
- Bringing someone with you is always recommended. If no one is available then make sure someone knows where you are going and share your location and contact information of the person you are meeting.
