Updated | By East Coast Radio
Being a boss is a big deal, let's look at how bosses can become better leaders.
Today is National Boss's Day.
Whether you choose to celebrate this day or not speaks volumes about the type of boss you have - and therefore we wanted to share some simple, yet impactful tips for the bosses out there.
Being a boss is a big deal. It requires a lot of things from a person and can be quite demanding.
But having a team of people look to you for guidance and support is like being a part of a family. It doesn't only mean telling people what to do, but also involves things like support, nurturing, encouragement, and more.
Strong leaders were described as assertive, adaptable, conscientious, and intelligent, according to a study featured on verywellmind.com.
These were highlighted as the most important traits of a leader, but that doesn't mean that employees are not looking for more from their leaders.
"Transformational leaders are usually described as enthusiastic, passionate, genuine and energetic. These leaders are not just concerned about helping the group achieve its goals; they also care about helping each member of the group reach his or her full potential." (verywellmind)
Some key tips for leaders to be better include:
1. Identifying your leadership style
You cannot expect to lead if you don't know what your strengths are and what you need to focus on to be better. So, perhaps taking a leadership quiz is an important first step.
2. Encourage creativity
"Intellectual stimulation is one of the leadership qualities that define transformational leadership. Followers need to be encouraged to express their creativity." (verywellmind) And with encouragement there should be support and guidance.
3. Be a role model
Walking the walk and talking the talk is key in any great transformational leader, because your actions and energy are something to be desired by your team.
"If you want to become a better leader, work on modeling the qualities that you would like to see in your team members." (verywellmind)

4. Have a positive attitude
You cannot expect to lead your team to success without first adopting a positive mindset. Of course, no one is positive all the time, but it is the moments that challenge your attitude that have the greatest impact.
5. Motivate your team
This goes hand in hand with positivity. Providing inspiration to your team pushes them into action. Motivation doesn't have to mean giving speeches to your team, it can simply be translated when a leader speaks passionately about a project.
It could even be portrayed by you helping members feel included.
6. Rewards and recognition
These really matter. Making your team feel acknowledged and appreciated is so important in any establishment. When your team feel validated and valued, they tend to perform better.
To all the great leaders and employees out there, we value you and appreciate all you do.
