No one has to tell you that we are fans of watching movies, like come now, who doesn't love the idea of being able to get entertained and escape into a world that isn't necessarily real.

It's our matrix and if there was a job that required us to watch movies for a living, then we would definitely be there, upfront and centre. So when we heard this announcement, we were excited and happy that a brand finally used this pandemic for good.

Ster-Kinekor has partnered with Sandton City to open up a drive-in on the rooftop. Yay! We love this! We support all things old-school, so when we heard about this, we were all in, now if only they would bring it to Durban... wink, wink, nudge, nudge...

According to Business Insider: "The local movie industry lost 83% revenue last year as a result of the pandemic." Ster-Kinekor had applied for business rescue as they were hit hard because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting restrictions.

The drive-in concept allows movie lovers to watch movies whilst in their cars, while having to tune in to the FM station to hear the audio. The rooftop space at Sandton City caters for 150 cars at R200 each.

"The City Drive-In… offers customers the opportunity to engage in a shared entertainment experience, from the safety and comfort of a controlled, socially distant space," said Preston Gaddy, the general manager of Sandton City.

So we ask again @SterKinekor - we're waiting with bated breath... bring the drive-in to Durban!
