South Africans, you can now renew your car licence online

Just one less queue you have to stand in...
We are certainly believers in evolution, especially when it comes to migrating to doing things online. One of the main things that would serve most people well online, has got to be the licence renewal process.
Besides the fact that we wouldn't have to engage in the long and drawn out process of physically going to get our motor vehicle licences renewed, it is helpful and suitable to our fast-paced lifestyles. Plus it helps with curbing the effects of the pandemic.
Well, the great news is that the post office has now launched an online service, where vehicle owners can go online to apply for their licence discs. We can literally mark one more thing off our 'to-do' list now, one less queue, one less stress...
"The full renewal process, including payment, will be done online, leaving only the last step of accessing the actual disc, the post office said. This will be done in one of two ways:
- The Post Office can deliver the disc to the customer at an affordable delivery fee
- The disk can be collected from a Post Office counter." (Business Tech)
Everything seems quite seamless and easy and when they say affordable, they really mean it. The payment can be done through Masterpass, which can be downloaded from Google Playstore for Android users and Apple App Store for Apple users.
"No commission is charged on the renewal transaction. The cost of delivery to door is R75 and there is no charge to the customer when it is collected from a Post Office counter." (Business Tech)

All vehicle owners from all provinces in South Africa except Western Cape can use this online service. The turnaround time is around three working days, however it may take an extra two days for outlying areas.
Customers can expect to receive an SMS notification for those who opt to collect, this will inform them that their disc is ready for collection. However, if you prefer the old school way, then the post offices that do offer licence renewals will still be operating.
