SEE: "I'm a teacher and I'm known by most students as the teacher with the shoes"

How many pairs of shoes do you have?
There's no denying that we all have some sort of fashion fetish, whether its shoes, hairbands, lingerie or jackets, we all have our unique addictions that we have to deal with.
Sometimes we control it because it can be costly, other times, we end up falling down the rabbit hole with our fetishes and only realise it when we have a room specially dedicated to the boxes and boxes of shoes...
That's what happened to this teacher who loves quirky and uniquely-designed shoes. She always had a passion for shoes from a young age, but as she has gotten older, it transitioned from Dr. Martens, Converse, and Vans to heels and boots...
My motto is 'life is too short to wear boring shoes.' I feel like most of these shoes are art and express who I am. I view my shoes as a sort of collection of art pieces. I like the challenge of putting together an outfit around the shoes I've picked out for the day. The quirkier, the better.- Kari Walbert
Kari Walbert has over 500 pairs that form part of her shoe collection now and they range from $40 to $600 pairs, which equates to around R600 to R9,000. She has a room dedicated to her shoes.
Her shoe choices are a reflection of her style and she loves coordinating an outfit based on her shoe choice. What has traditionally been the other way around, the shoe can sometimes be an afterthought, is the lead in Kari's wardrobing.
I have everything from sneakers, flip flops, sandals, boots, platforms, stilettos, wedges and more. The majority of my quirkier shoes are from Irregular Choice, a UK brand.- Kari Walbert
She certainly has made a statement with her shoes, as many of her students at school refer to her as "the teacher with the shoes". They often pass by her class just to see what shoes she is wearing.
Kari admits that she had no control over her shoe obsession, but is now consciously trying to control it.
I usually buy when there are new releases, so two to three pairs per month. If I see a pair I fancy, I usually just buy them on the spot. I have zero self-control when it comes to shoes.- Kari Walbert
