Ewan Arnott took to Twitter to find his mum after 30 years and the online troops gathered together and made it work...
Ewan Arnott, a Scottish DJ, posted on his Twitter account wishing his mother a Happy Mother's Day. He set out to use social media to find his mother, who hadn't seen him in 30 years!
Ewan's parents, both from Scotland, were in South Africa in the 80s, and Ewan was born in Klerksdorp in 1980. His parents went through some tough times and it prompted their split, which left Ewan and his sister leaving the country, going back to Edinburgh, Scotland in 1990.
Below was his original tweet which snowballed into the online world joining hands to make his dream a reality.
“It only needed one person to know her whereabouts and then everything fell in place. My mom is staying in Johannes-burg and she is now called Janis Stevenson. A lady from Bela-Bela was so touched by the story that she went to see mom and put us in touch,” he said.
Happy Mother's day Mum! it's been years since I saw my mother and it's a long story. Every Mothers day I miss her and this year has been worse as she is in her late 60's now. I'll try to use social media to find her. And I will ask for help from #SalvationArmy

Ewan spoke to his mum and just writing about it leaves us with goosebumps. What a moment it must've been for him and for her, who probably never expected that she would be reunited with her son after 30 years.
A momentous occasion indeed. Ewan set off on his mission to then bring his mother home to join the rest of the family. There's no way we can downplay the effects of the pandemic and its impact on people from all over the world, so when it came to him bringing his mother back to Scotland, he was going to need some help.
“Now that we’ve made contact, the plan is to keep in touch, of course, and I am planning to either fly to SA or fly my mother over to UK. My mother has 3 grandkids in Scotland and her future is here because she expressed her desire to return to the land of her birth after over 40 years in SA. I have two sons and my sister has a daughter who should all meet my mother,“ said Ewan, according to NorthWest News.
Ewan has set up an online GoFundMe account to try and collect money so that he can bring his mum back to the family. His goal is to reach £5,000 and he is currently at £275 - but if anything the online world has shown us that anything is possible.
Here's to their reunion and it being everything that they want it to be...
