With the weather being so hot and cold recently, it's hard to say what we can expect Christmas to look like this year.

Of course, if we have to take previous experience into account, we can say that most of the time, Christmas in KZN is almost always hot. The heat coupled with loadshedding, water-shedding, or both, leaves us feeling vulnerable.

So, we have found some great tips that you could follow to keep your home cooler this Summer, so, at least beating the heat can be an upside.

- A simple way to keep your home cooler during the sweltering heat waves is to get light, breezy curtains. Who knew this could allow your house to be cooler?

- Spraying your curtains with some water can help you experience a cooler breeze.

- Filling your hot water bottle with cold water and putting it under your sheets can help you stay cooler during the hot nights.

- Open your windows early in the morning to get the cool breeze in and you can leave your windows open at night.

- "Electrical appliances such as televisions or computers can generate a lot of heat, so it's a good idea to switch off everything when you are not using it. Lights are another source of heat, so make sure you don't leave any lights turned on. Pro tip: Led lightbulbs give off less heat and can help you save money!" (MSN)

- Fans notoriously push out hot air and instead of reaching for the aircon all the time, try this handy trick out. Place a bucket of ice and coarse salt in front of the fan and you will notice the air flow to be much cooler.

- Simple and easy to do, put your feet in a bucket of cold water and notice how it cools you down.

- We know that it can be easy to reach for cold drinks and juice to quench your thirst during a hot Summer's day, but make sure to hydrate, at least 2 litres a day.

- Wear light and breathable clothes.

- Surprisingly, mopping the house in the morning with cold water has been known to make the temperature go down.

- Keep the baking for another day, stick to recipes that don't require the use of the oven. Using the oven during the hottest part of the day can make it hotter.
