Man uses broken bank card to pay for shopping
Updated | By East Coast Radio
This may well be entertaining for some, but it is also scary in terms of theft...
Bank cards have always been such a convenient way of paying for items when you are out and about.
But they are not without their cons. Besides the common one about opening yourself up to fraud with your card being copied or even stolen, there's the fact that even in this day and age not all service providers cater for cards.
On top of all of that, there's the fact that when you have a bank card, there's the possibility that it may get damaged and you are then left stuck without money.
Usually when your bank card gets damaged or stolen, you have to visit your bank branch to get a new one.
And where once the replacement wouldn't cost you anything, now you have to pay to get your card replaced.
One man videoed himself using his badly broken bank card to pay for goods he purchased at a clothing store. He admitted that cashiers always laugh at him when he pulls out his card to pay.

We cannot blame them, aside from the humour, there's the fact that it does look a bit dodgy to be using a broken card.
Luckily for him, the card was broken in such a way that the chip was still intact.

It was funny to see how people responded to him and his broken card.
One person even said they were going to willingly break their card because this was so "cute". Uh, we are not sure about that one...
Another person asked him about the possibility of the card getting stuck and he revealed he does have fear sometimes when he uses it at the ATM...
We're just shocked that the ATM hasn't swallowed the card up already.
But with a new bank card costing R70 at a Capitec Bank Branch, we think it would be better for him to replace his card.
