Man fakes his own death to teach his family a lesson

That's definitely a bold move...

There are moments in life when you feel like nothing will suffice until you make a grand statement.

Sometimes that comes in the form of leaving home, other times it means intervention - and in this case it meant faking death.

A Belgian man has taken the most extreme route when it came to teaching his extended family a vital life lesson.

"A 45-year-old man, David Baerten, in Belgium, faked his death and then arrived at his own burial in a helicopter to teach his family a lesson about keeping in touch." (Facebook)

Baerten did not feel loved when it came to his extended family. And of course, naturally, that means you should fake your own death.

Mind our sarcasm, we really were surprised by his grand gesture. Besides the fact that it seems completely inappropriate, we can understand where he was going with it.

It reminded us a lot of that episode in 'Friends' when Chandler posted that Ross was dead and they went through with an actual funeral.

"One of Baerten's daughters tricked her father's social media followers into believing his death by writing, 'Rest in peace, Daddy. I will never stop thinking about you. Why is life so unfair? Why you? You were going to be a grandfather, and you still had your whole life ahead of you. I love you! We love you! We will never forget you'.”

"The family staged a funeral, and when mourners gathered, Baerten arrived by helicopter with a video team." (Facebook)

Baerton explained his actions by saying: "What I see in my family often hurts me. I never get invited to anything. Nobody sees me. We all grew apart. I felt unappreciated. That's why I wanted to give them a life lesson and show them that you shouldn't wait until someone is dead to meet up with them."

We have to admit, that is an important life lesson...
