LISTEN: Vic Naidoo speaks to Cindy Wadsworth, one of our Local Heroes for the Clean Up Durban project
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Clean Up Durban, a Facebook group that has allowed many Durbanites to join in on the clean up efforts around Durban, has us ending off the week in high spirits...
We have been overwhelmed with the kindness and high-spirited people that reside in our province and in many parts of South Africa. As many people were trying to find the courage to come out of their homes, others were busy trying to rebuild our city. One of those local heroes is Cindy Wadsworth.
She decided to take a step into restoration when she created the Clean Up Durban Facebook Group. Her motivation to do so was definitely to move past all the violence and destruction that ruined so much of our beautiful city. It took courage to make that first step, and a few days later she truly managed to bring some light amidst all the darkness.
It's like a story of the mythical Phoenix...
"A phoenix is a mythical bird with colorful feathers and a tail of gold and scarlet. In the ancient Greek and Egyptian mythologies, it is described as a large bird, much like an eagle, with supernatural powers to come back to life. The appearance of this bird has been described differently in different cultures but everywhere, the phoenix bird is looked upon as a symbol of immortality, rebirth and life after death." (Mocomi Website)
We as a community have risen back to life and we won't stop there, we will come back stronger and more endearing as this experience has truly marked us as one for all and all for one.
