Lights out! Girl uses extreme methods to see her boyfriend

The things we do for love...
The concept 'lights out' has a new meaning when it comes to this story.
Where usually the term refers to bedtime, now a young lady from India has literally adapted it for love - and this story has all the makings of a romance novel.
"A young girl from the Indian state of Bihar kept cutting the power in her entire village so she could meet a boy from a rival village without anyone seeing them together." (Oddity Central)
A bit of a sensitive topic for us in South Africa, considering the regular power cuts due to loadshedding, not to mention the water cuts.
But nonetheless, we can appreciate a good love story for what it's worth.
After the villagers of Bettiah, a village in Bihar’s West Champaran district, found themselves in darkness for over a week at the same time in the evenings, they were left on edge.
Of course, as we all feel here at home, the lights going out is a big invitation to criminals, especially at night.
But after they raised questions with the electrical company and found that they had no infrastructural issue, they became suspicious.
The suspiciousness pushed the locals to investigate, and one night after they stood watch in the village, they made a shocking discovery.
They spotted a young couple meeting under the cover of darkness.
"It turned out that the local girl, Priti Kumari, had fallen in love with Rajkumar, a young man from a rival village, and she kept cutting the power in the village to keep the relationship a secret." (Oddity Central)

The rival villagers were at each other's throats, and as a means of ending the feud, Priti and Rajkumar were married.
"Preeti’s strategy to keep her relationship a secret was actually inspired by the idea of an Indian electrician who made news headlines last year for cutting power in his home village to meet his girlfriend in secret." (Oddity Central)
