Now, this is a dish
we’re dying to try!
It’s undeniable that some of the world’s best breyani is made right here in our very own back yard. But while KZN does boast some of the best tasting breyani dishes, they’re certainly not the most expensive.
The fragrant dish is, in fact, very reasonable on the pocket. But, one luxury restaurant in Dubai has taken the dish to the extreme and has created the world’s most expensive breyani.
Bombay Borough is a five-star fine dining Indian experience at the heart of the Middle Eastern city which prides itself on its luxurious spins on classic Indian dishes. Recently, the restaurant has been trending after it added a brand-new item to its menu – the Royal Gold Biryani.
It appears to be the most expensive breyani dish in the world, coming in at a whopping Dh 1,000 (R3,912) and is decorated with indulgent edible 23-carat gold.
The dish is said to be an experience in itself. It is served on a giant platter brought in by two waiters who play the part and wear golden aprons. The breyani reportedly weighs three kilograms and takes about 45 minutes to cook and assemble.

The dish takes diners on an entire culinary journey across India, as it is served with three varieties of rice - white saffron-infused rice, keema rice, and chicken breyani rice.
Meat lovers are set to love the dish as the breyani is served with assortment of meats, including lamb chops, lamb kebabs, meatballs, and grilled chicken. That’s a whole lot of food!
Naturally, the dish isn’t for a single diner and, according to the restaurant, can feed up to six people.

Would you pay that much money to try this breyani dish?
Vic says there is no way he’d spend that much money on a breyani! “I would never ever in my life spend R4,000 on a breyani – not even if it was my mom’s breyani,” Vic says. “Do you know what I could buy for R4,000? I could buy shoes, a new pair of sunglasses, anything! I wouldn’t even spend R4,000 on a breyani if Beyoncé made it!”
