"I got rejected for an apartment I wanted because of who I am..."
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Have you ever not got something you really wanted because of what you do for a living?
There are moments in life where we get judged for one thing or the other. Whether it is the way we look, our appearance and physical attributes or our sexuality.
Regardless of the reason, it isn't right and should not be tolerated. However, there is also the fact that we need to be wary of - freedom of choice. Everyone has the right to choose what works for them and what doesn't, but isn't that an infringement on the other person?
Well, we don't know about the specifics in terms of law, but we saw this story and it got us thinking about how people judge you over what work you do or who you are, when it comes to certain things.
This guy is a photographer in Los Angeles and he has over 400,000 followers on TikTok. Because he is a freelance photographer it was difficult for him to secure an apartment. We are assuming that has something to do with the fact that some landlords only lease their properties out to someone who has a secure income.
He goes on to say in his video that he was finally at a point of finalising an apartment and then he got rejected by the landlord. The reason the landlord gave was because after Googling his name, they found he had associations with influencers who are known for their party lives.
Basically, he was judged for work that he had done on a site called Famous Birthdays that showed some wild parties. The landlord said: "So, unfortunately, I don’t want to give you the lease because I don’t want you to do the same things that they did, and I don’t want to get into any kind of legal trouble." Some people came to the post and commented.
“I think thats considered housing discrimination omg,” commented one user on his video.
“I’m pretty sure that’s illegal,” wrote another. (TikTok)
