With the recent backlog with driver's licences that have many drivers sweating balls of stress, it is great to hear that there are bigger talks happening on how to implement easier and more practical systems.

"South Africa currently faces a backlog of more than 500,000 licences after the national Covid-19 lockdown imposed on the country in 2020 and 2021 forced licensing centres to close, resulting in a massive backlog of expired vehicle and driving licences." (Business Tech)

However, the issue that seems to rise time and time again with these implementations, is that they are either not fully thought out, or the potential issues have not been taken into consideration.

In order for any system to work, there needs to be some sort of step-by-step process in place. Things like troubleshooting problems on the ground is where we find the downfall...

On that note, it is interesting to hear that the "Basic Education minister Angie Motshekga says her department is working with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) to offer driving and learner licences at schools across the country." (Business Tech)

Due to budgetary constraints, the programme has stalled, however the minister has stressed that this is still a key priority. As much as it sounds productive and proactive for the development of our youth, it leaves us feeling a bit nervous, considering the behaviour that many students have been displaying recently. We hope that this will be well thought out and tested before fully implemented.
