High-fives should be the new handshakes and here's why...

The origin of the high-five is mysterious and unclear, but it's been around for decades and will probably remain until the end of time.

Who were the first people to slap their hands together above their heads?

There has never been and never will be a clear story of how the concept of the high-five came to be.

Who invented this, kind of strange, hand gesture?

Some speculate that it was invented by baseball player and outfielder Glenn Burke, from the LA Dodgers, when he high-fived a fellow player out of nowhere!

Others claim that it actually took place on a basketball court in Louisville between 1978-79.

One thing we all seem to agree on is that it found its origins in sport.

Now in the year 2020, touching hands is close to being outlawed and the previously innocent high-five is now a thing of the past.

So for the time being, we just have to continue using our imagination instead of actually slapping palms.
