Have The Simpsons predicted the end of the world?

The iconic television series is known for making quite accurate predictions of future events and everyone thinks that they've done it again.
Television and film find inspiration in real-life events, people, and more to create a fantasy.

While many stories have been told in the creative world, you can generally see where they draw inspiration for these from the real-world or see how it relates to something very real.
What makes 'The Simpsons' so eerily similar to what is actually taking place on Earth in our day-to-day lives, is that they have been able to convey many of these events before some of them even happened.

That is why many people have strange and freaky conspiracy theories about the writers of the show and what they might know.
But it's clear that 'The Simpsons' have definitely accurately predicted the future multiple times.

Now, people have noticed that the series has done it again!
We might only be a little over a week into 2021, but the craziness of 2020 is still lingering, especially after seeing the mob storming the US Capitol.

The latest episode to feature a prediction was aired in November 2020 and is called 'Treehouse of Horror XXXI'.
It shows Homer Simpson sitting on top of his house enjoying a beer, completely calm, while a post-apocalyptic world surrounds him.

What makes the episode so daunting is that the date in the episode is the 20th of January - the next US presidential inauguration.
While the episode never explicitly states that the world is going to end, viewers have made their own conclusions as to what this fiery downfall could predict.
