Groom abandons bride at altar because his mother said she was ugly!?

She should count her blessings she got out of that relationship...
We cannot even fathom what this bride-to-be must've felt when her groom left her at the altar.
It is one thing to get cold feet but to make a full blown decision to get married and then hide behind the opinion of your mother, that's just pathetic.
Lamia al-Labawi, a woman from Tunisia was allegedly engaged to her partner for four years. But the mother of the groom had never met Lamia in person.
The mother-in-law had merely seen photos of Lamia. But upon meeting her on the day of the wedding, things turned ugly.
"The Tunisian groom left his wedding party to the so-called "Lamia al-Labawi", after his mother asked him to do so because the bride was "ugly"." (Facebook)
Now this is far from the truth, we have seen a pic of her and she is anything but ugly. How sad it is to realise that we live in a world where one woman would humiliate and demean another for the sake of what?
Lamia shared a post on her private social media page revealing how embarrassed she was over what happened. Especially considering that she is an orphan and was excited to be a part of a new family.
Besides that she also spent a lot of money on the wedding. But just like so many others talking about the story online, we think she dodged a big bullet with this family.

If a guy who willingly accepted her to be his wife can be so influenced by his mother, then what sort of life would she have led had he stayed?
We know many people value their parents' opinions, but to what extent? Especially if they are as backward thinking and shallow minded as this mother...
