This is a great office productivity tip!

A great method for those who actually want to work and not just chit chat...
There are those co-workers that enjoy a chat now and then... and then there are those who spend their work days chit chatting their way around the entire office.
We cannot say much for those 'all day chit chatters', we reserve our right to comment there, but to the ones that enjoy a now and then chat, this one is for you...
A woman shares a great system that they use in their office to show others whether they are free, busy or only available for urgent matters.
It can be difficult to stick to time constraints when it comes to office chatting, because your work mates are your people. Considering you sometimes spend more time with them than with your families.
So this office uses what we are calling a traffic light system as an indicator as to whether they can speak or not. It is sort of a real-life version of a do not disturb/away/available signal on Skype.
The green, orange/amber, and red flag lights all have their own meanings. And if those don't work, then there is the good old-fashioned hand written note that speaks volumes...
Sharing that you are not available to chat about anything other than work is your right in the workplace.
So we think that this system is great, it is certainly a nice alternative to moving someone away when you are busy.
