Girlfriend in hot broth over refusing to eat her boyfriend's mother's food
What in the 'Pho' was she thinking?!
We have heard of some crazy stories when it comes to interracial relationships, but somehow there is always a silver lining.
But in this case, it is more of an awkward situation turned more awkward. You know when you are watching a movie and the girlfriend or boyfriend is meeting the parents and then they just say the wrong thing...
Well, this was a real-life version of that instance. And it has left the girlfriend somewhat stressed about her mess up.
An American lady who is dating an Asian guy revealed that she went over to hang out with him at home.
Usually his mother is at work and so the girlfriend hasn't really had a chance to interact with her. However, on this occasion, the mother was at home.
She took this opportunity to cook a meal for the family and invited her to join them for supper. After telling her boyfriend's mother that she was not hungry a few times, the mother insisted, saying that she wanted to thank her for taking care of her son.
So the girlfriend eventually caved and decided to join the family at the dinner table.
Here comes the tricky part, mum had prepared a traditional Vietnamese dish called Pho. Which can be described as a noodle soup.
The girlfriend was not used to this type of food and made the mistake of playing with her food, with mum noticing. And obviously she was not happy about this.
She tried to share that she was not trying to be disrespectful, but it was too late. When mum asked why she was not eating she said: "I'm just not used to this kind of food..."
Mum frowned and turned to her son (the boyfriend) speaking in Vietnamese.

Then the boyfriend turned to her and asked her to try it. She persisted in her decision saying she wasn't going to force herself to eat something, and then feel ill.
As you can imagine this did not sit well with mum, who went off on a rant, telling her son that this is the reason he should not have dated an American girl and even asked them to leave.
The girlfriend ended off her story time by saying that she was going to apologise and make time to speak with her boyfriend's mother. And she added that they were not going to break up because of this.
It is considered rude in many cultures to refuse a meal that has been offered to you. Just saying.
