A real life Godzilla?
Terrifying footage
of a giant lizard loose inside a grocery store in Thailand is making waves with
many comparing the incident to an attack by fictional monster Godzilla.
In the clip, shared by Thai travel agency Mundo Nomada, an Asian water monitor lizard is seen climbing on shelves inside of a 7 Eleven in Thailand knocking off countless items in the process. The lizard then seems to relax after reaching the top of the shelf inside the supermarket.
Shoppers are heard screaming while the supermarket tries to figure out a way to remove the animal from the store safely. Others seem to be laughing as they come to terms with what is happening.

In a series of tweets, the agency explains that water monitors are very common in the Bangkok area and other parts of Thailand and they are attracted to grocery stores and supermarkets because they are very fond of carrion or decaying animal parts.
A shop assistant reported the animal to police and handlers later showed up to tranquilize it and return it to the wild.

The agency adds that the animals have become such a nuisance that Thai people use the name of this animal as an insult.
The lizards can be dangerous and authorities ask the public to handle them with care as their sharp teeth can sever tendons and veins. It is also said that they have a bite worse than a rattlesnake.

The video has sent shockwaves around social media with many gasping at the terrifying moment. “This actually makes me nauseous,” one user on Twitter commented. Another added “See? Even Godzilla hates Big Snacks.”
Another user likened the creature to Godzilla saying “The marketing for Godzilla vs King Kong is getting out of hand.” Another joked “New Godzilla movie sucks. Thought there was a monkey fight?”
