French town uses clever way to get motorists to slow down

It seems confusing motorists stops them from breaking the rules... in France at least.
This story is proof that speeding is a worldwide problem.
After all, we guess this is why the 'Fast and Furious' franchise became such a success?
A French town of Bauné, near Angers, which is home to 1,700 people, surprisingly has to deal with heavy traffic due to a busy intersection that is used by motorists passing through.
"Some of the roughly 2,300 that pass through Bauné every day can have speeds of over 100 km/h (60mph), even though the town’s intersection is clearly marked with signs limiting the speed at 30 km/h." (Oddity Central)
Of course, there's nothing new in motorists not diligently following the rules of the road. So, this town decided to get clever with their way of handling the speeding problem.
The local authorities decided the best way forward was to confuse motorists. So, they decided to use confusing road markings on the road in the form of overlapping lines.

Do this in South Africa and it will be accident central and cause absolute mayhem.
But we guess the reason it worked so well is because it was only for a period of time, you have to remember this is a community of motorists who use this intersection regularly.
And the deputy mayor, Grégoire Jauneault, confirmed this.
"The deliberately confusing road markings started working on the day they were completed, with data showing a significant decrease in motorists’ speeds. However, a part of the local community that the result is only temporary and that as soon as motorists figure out the game, they’ll go right back to their speeding ways." (Oddity Central)
