When we see those people trying to make a living by selling their crafts at the beachfront or at the traffic light, many people turn away, not because they don't care or aren't interested, but because they don't want to have to say "no" and disappoint the person behind the item.

But sometimes, all we need to remember is that we need to be human first, just looking at them in the eyes and acknowledging their presence can sometimes be all that the seller wants or needs.

Lisa Rouhana is a surfer and one day after a surf session at Muizenberg beach, she met up with Elton. He is a young man who comes from tough beginnings. But from Lisa's post on Facebook, what we can ascertain is that he has not used his circumstances to his disadvantage but rather has such a positive attitude.

She posted to her Facebook page sharing her experience with Elton and how things worked in his favour with a simple gesture. She purchased one of his handmade bags and it turned into a big plus for him - starting to expand his small business.

Elton shared with Lisa that he was thrown in the bin as a baby and he was thrown out of a train when he was 21, and that is when he lost his legs and became handicapped.

After buying one of his handmade bags and parting ways, Lisa went to meet her mum at a local café and the owner loved it so much and asked where she got it from. This was the start of Elton's dream, she agreed to stock his handmade bags at her store and this is a clear example of how one small act can have such a positive effect on someone's life.
