Border patrol not 'loving it' as passenger brings in fast food meal

Far from a happy meal...

If you have travelled before, you would know that carrying meat or fresh produce across borders is considered contraband.

Of course people have their ways of getting around the rules and regulations, but these are in place for a reason.

It could result in spreading disease and the repercussions could be deadly.

"A traveller arriving in Australia from Indonesia has been hit with an almost US$2,000 (around R33 000) fine after border guards detected two McMuffins and a ham croissant secretly squirrelled away in their backpack." (Business Insider)

Talk about taking things to the next level. Couldn't they just ask her to get rid of the meal and give her a warning?

But as we said earlier, each country has their reasons and we cannot blame them for it...

After all, look at what happened with COVID-19.

"Australia has hyper-stringent biosecurity laws designed to protect the country's large agriculture industry from imported pests and diseases. Authorities are currently on high alert after an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in Indonesia, with all meat imports from that country undergoing screening." (Business Insider)

As much as the disease is not a risk for humans, it poses a great risk for livestock. And considering the losses could have a snowball effect on the country and also the world, if you consider export and trade, no chances can be taken.

Interestingly enough, the value of the fine was set as a comparison for us, and this is what it equates to.

"At Aus$2,664, the fine was equivalent to the cost of 567 sausage and egg McMuffins in Sydney, or several return flights to Bali." (Business Insider)

What an expensive risk to take all for the sake of a McDonald's meal...
