Hugging someone is generally a gesture of endearment. Something that isn't really considered as a dangerous activity.

Also not something that you would associate with injury. But it seems that this was the case for one Chinese woman.

Of course, when you think about hugging someone, there are various types of hugs. There are side bodied hugs, there are sink-into-someone's arms and chest hugs, and then there are squeeze hugs...

We think that each of the above is a reflection of the type of bond or the closeness that you have with the person you are hugging.

So we would assume that the tight squeeze hugs are with people that you are close to? Well, at least that's what we would assume.

But for this woman, we are not sure if that was the case, because she was hugged so tightly by a co-worker that she sustained broken ribs.

"The woman reportedly took the colleague in question to the Yunxi Court and sought compensation for the money she lost due to the alleged hulk of a hug." (MSN)

The incident is said to have taken place last year, and happened whilst the woman was chatting to a colleague. It was then that a male co-worker approached her and gave her a hug.

The hug was so tight that it was alleged that she shouted in pain.

After suffering with pain she decided to visit the hospital, where it was discovered that she had three broken ribs.

Whether or not her broken ribs were a result of the hug is undetermined, but according to the court, the man had to pay her the sum of 10,000 yuan (R24,010) after his hug (which he considered to be cordial) caused her pain and time off work.

So next time be wary as to how much pressure you are using when giving a hug, or better yet, stick to a wave...

After all, non-contact greetings are the best in this day and age...
