We chatted to Khanyi Mbau and we were taken aback and surprised!
Updated | By George Thorne
The Khanyi Mbau we chatted is not who we thought she was!
We got to speak to Khanyi Mbau about her new movie Happiness is a Four Letter Word. I must admit both Sirshin and I were a little nervous about interviewing her. What we know about Khanyi is what we have been fed in the tabloids, on social media and newspaper articles that all tend to define her as a money grabbing, superficial IT girl.
The Khanyi we had the privilege of chatting to was none of the above. She is beautiful- this we know. She is erudite and witty. Smart actually. And gracious. She was playful, accommodating and a delight. Khanyi is someone we would love to invite over for dinner, or hang out with at our local bar.
Khanyi is the embodiment of style. Not fashion. Style! Which is that rare combination of intelligence, beauty, grace and wit.
Simply put, Khanyi Mbau is cool!
It is amazing how easy we are trapped into allowing the media (of which we are a part) into creating a false perception of someone. And it is a little frightening to have those perceptions exploded when you finally have an opportunity to meet them.
In this case the entire experience was wonderfully positive. We expected to met by the babble of her entourage, or or sycophantic personal manager running obstruction. Perhaps even a crew of cool but idiotic enablers.
No! It was just Khanyi, and us, sitting in a cool air-conditioned cinema. A Khanyi we had no idea of.
We wanted to take a pic with her, so we expected her to say sure, only one though! No ways- she allowed us to do a mini photo shoot and all we had was my cell phone. No image consultant in sight. Brave, given my photographic skills.
Getting to the reason we actually met with Khanyi, was her new movie Happiness is Four Letter Word. Listen to what Khanyi had to say.
The interview was done before the movie was released locally!
We received the following information today:
Congratulations poured in as the highly anticipated romance Happiness is a Four-Letter Word, smashed box office expectations in cinemas in its opening 3 days, with 45 000 attendances and gross box office receipts of R2 371 782. It was the best performing film of all new releases this weekend and did better than international releases such as 13 Hours, Secret soldiers of Benghazi, Hail Caesar!, 50 Shades of Black and Trumbo. It is ranked at number 3 on the Top 10 after Deadpool and Vir Altyd.
The movie is rocking! Go check it out this weekend. Check out the trailer below for a taster!
Khanyi was also up for playing a few games. We started with, Never Ever, Ever Have I. Khanyi may have been a little too honest!
Then we played Hot or Not? AKA and Cassper will not be too happy with her answer!
If you have seen the movie, let us know what you think about it?
