From watermelon steak to watermelon sushi

An Australian food blogger, Eva Friedl, made a TikTok video showing people how to make vegan sushi out of watermelon.
The recipe has gone viral and has people all over the world trying their hand at making this food substitute.

The recipe is quite simple and only calls for five ingredients which include: watermelon, soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, ginger, and sesame seeds.

The blogger says that this version of sashimi is incredibly close to the real thing and even tastes better.
She had given her boyfriend the watermelon sashimi to taste test and he couldn't figure out what it was because it was practically the same, saying that he couldn't believe what it was when told.
It is important to note that if you are considering making an attempt at this recipe that you use the exact ingredients listed.

Friedl was inspired to use watermelon after coming across a recipe on Pinterest of it being turned into steaks!
She's not the first foodie to turn this everyday fruit into a fish substitute. YouTube food bloggers avantgardevegan and Edgy Veg have also made their own versions of a variety of sushi including, nigiri, poke bowls, and spicy tuna rolls.
This isn't something you see every day, but we have to admit we are quite curious to give it a try.
