Six fascinating desserts from all around the world!

The 14th of October is the best kind of day for anyone with a sweet tooth because it's officially International Dessert Day!
What would the world be without our favourite sweet treats?

Imagine not being able to enjoy a decadent piece of chocolate cake, a dozen creamy cupcakes, or some classic jelly and custard.
Creating a list of all the desserts from around the world could probably take a while, but they all should be celebrated.
Here are some of the most interesting and delicious desserts that you can try this International Dessert Day:
Japan - Mochi
Its name comes from glutinous rice called mochigome, which then is pounded to form a paste and gets molded into the round shapes.

Turkey - Baklava
This pretty pastry consists of layers of phyllo pastry, filled with nuts, and covered in honey or syrup.
Fun fact: Phyllo dough is named after the Greek word for leaf, meaning "as thin as a leaf".

Brazil - Brigadeiros
Closely resembling a chocolate truffle, these desserts consist of powdered sugar, condensed milk, and butter, with the mixture being shaped into balls.
This is not for the faint of heart!

Egypt - Om Ali
Om (also known as umm) ali is like a variation of bread pudding and is perfect for the person who wants something sweet, but not too sweet.
It's made with milk, puff pastry, sugar, vanilla, different nuts, raisins, and coconut flakes.

Sweden - Prinsesstårta
This dessert, which means Princess cake, consists of several layers and is usually covered in a green marzipan topping.
The different layers include sponge cake, pastry cream, and whipped cream.

This classic cake-type pudding has the tendency to hit you with a wave of nostalgia.
