The One Life Foundation is a non-profit company which began in early 2016 by CEO Chad Roberts when he realised the dire need of widows and orphans in the Midlands Area.
His dream was to start a business model where the underprivileged could be trained in sustainable skills, whilst at the same time, taking care of those who couldn’t take care of themselves in their communities.
Here's what they have accomplished to date:
1. A mobile clinic seeing to the community’s basic health once a week.
2. Providing the community with a church service on a Sunday and Youth on a Friday.
3. IT Skills taught to the local community.
4. A feeding scheme in place where over 250 children receive a meal a day.
5. Child-headed homes and widows are assisted with vegetables from the gardens.
6. Providing a basic sewing course to 6 students every 10 weeks on both domestic and industrial machines.
7. Organic homestead garden training to approximately 10 people in the community
8. There are two nursery tunnels of about 22m x 3m which are used to grow seedlings for resale to the community at a reduced rate
9. The One Life Foundation is in the process of enrolling students for poultry rearing and hatchery training as well as baking lessons
10. Once the baking lessons commence, they will embark on a recycle programme where community members collect recyclable material and receive one loaf of bread for every two bags they bring to the Centre.
With so many children and young adults visiting the community centre on a daily basis, there was also a great need for these young people to socialise, spend time together, laugh and have fun in a safe environment.
That’s when Ron Drew heard about the incredible work The One Life Foundation were doing and jumped on board to help by donating a newly refurbished full-size pool table valued at R100,000.
These children and young adults are certainly going to enjoy this!
Ron also wanted to make a difference in the lives of children in rural areas by taking them to the movies, especially those who’d never been before.
